What is the import/export tool?

The import/export tool allows you to transfer information between Method and a spreadsheet. This is particularly useful for users who want to import large lists of leads when first signing up to Method.

The files supported for import are comma separated values text files (csv) and Excel files (xls).

Import files must be .xls or .csv. Other file types, such as .xlsx, cannot be imported at this time. Please save as .xls or .csv.

The tool can also be used to mass-update existing information without having to do so manually. Best of all, you can use the import/export tool with Method tables, QuickBooks tables, and even custom tables you’ve built yourself!

In order to access the import/export tool, you need to be an administrator on your Method account, and you need to have API (application programming interface) access. Here's how to grant those permissions to your Method users.

Giving Administrator permissions

  1. In the upper right corner, click the Gear icon and select Preferences > Users.
  2. Click the user you want to grant access to, then click Manage User Permissions.
  3. Click Give [user] full administrative permissions.
  4. Scroll down and click Save to save your changes.

This user will now have admin access, which means he or she will be able to see the Integrations option in their Preferences menu.

Enabling API access

Method’s API acts as a “bridge” between two programs, allowing information to be passed back and forth as it is in an import or export. A user who wants to make use of that bridge needs API access. Here’s how to give it to them.

Giving a user administrative access automatically gives them API access as well, but just in case you need to do this manually, here's how.
  1. In the upper right corner, click the Gear icon and select Preferences > Users.
  2. Click the user you want to grant access to.
  3. Scroll down to Account Permissions and click This user is allowed to connect to Method's API.
  4. Click Save to save your changes.

Accessing the import/export tool

Once you have enabled these permissions, your user (or users) will be able to access the import/export tool by doing the following:

  1. In the upper right corner, click the Gear icon and select Preferences > Integrations.
  2. Click Launch Import/Export.

This will take you to step 1 of the Import/Export menu. Now you can check out how to import or how to export.

If this is your first time importing and/or exporting to or from Method, we recommend you follow the steps very carefully to ensure you don’t make mistakes with your data.
