Is the Method Gmail Gadget Being Shut Down?

The Gmail Gadget will be replaced by the Method:Sidebar for Gmail

On August 1st, 2018, Google is planning to shut down all Gmail contextual gadgets in favor of Gmail Add-ons. This means the current Method Gmail gadget will be replaced.

This change is scheduled to happen as of August 1st, however, Google is scheduled to offer a new email experience for their G Suite users, released for early adoption on April 26th 2018.

Users who choose to opt into this new experience will no longer be able to use their existing Method Gmail Gadget as it will no longer be visible/usable.

We understand the Gmail Gadget is very crucial in many users' day-to-day workflow, so we are building a Gmail add-on to replace this called Method:Sidebar for Gmail. Once the Method:Sidebar is available, it will work in this new experience.

As part of building the Method:Sidebar, we want your help. We've created a short survey to collect information about how the current gadget is being used today and what users would like to see added.

Survey: How do you use the Gmail Gadget?

Question: I use the Gmail Gadget now, do I need to do anything as a result of this?

Answer: No, there is no action required from you at this time. We just wanted to keep you informed.

Question: When do you estimate the new Method:Sidebar for Gmail will be available?

Answer: We estimate the Gmail Add-on will be available for end of June 2018.

Question: Will this support Android Mobile?

Answer: Yes, this will add support for Android Mobile.

Question: What will the new Method:Sidebar for Gmail look like?

Answer: The new add-on will open up in a panel on the right-hand side of the screen. We cannot guarantee the final product will look like this.
